Resetting your Microsoft account password

In the Microsoft login screen click the link Cant access your account?


In the next screen, choose Work or school account for account type


In the next screen, enter your email address and enter the captcha verification code


You now need to verify your identity to reset your account, you will need to verify with 2 different methods

  1. Email verification: Select Email my alternate email, click Email and then enter the code received. Click Next
  2. SMS verification: Select Text my mobile phone, enter your phone number and click Text and then enter the code received. Click Next
  3. Phone verification: Select Call my mobile phone, enter your phone number and click Call and answer the phone call and follow the prompt. Click Next
  4. Authentication app verification (notification): Select Approve a notification on my authenticator app, click Send Notification, approve on the Microsoft authenticator app.
  5. Authentication app verification (TOTP app): Select Enter a code from my authenticator app, enter code from your authenticator app. Click Next

Once you have verified your identity with two different methods, you will now be asked to enter your new password. Your password must be at least 8 characters long and must combine uppercase, lowercase, numbers and symbols. They cannot contain common words, your name, or username.
