Sharing a file/folder in SharePoint with external users

Click on the Share icon next to the file/folder that you wish to share



Click on People in Givelify with the link can edit


In the next screen you can choose the sharing option that you want.

  1. People you choose (more secure, recommended)
    1. This method is recommended as it ensures only the people you share with has access to edit this file
    2. Recipient will need to create a Microsoft account if they do not already have one
  2. Anyone (less secure)
    1. This method sends a link to the recipients and anyone with the link will be able to access the file
    2. You have the option to add a password to make the link more secure
    3. For security purposes, the link is set to expire after 180 days by default


You can also choose to give the recipient the ability to edit the file shared under more settings



Once you are done with the options, you can click on Apply to return to the previous menu



Type in the email of the recipients and click send
